Changing land uses present opportunities as well as challenges. Our land use and planning knowledge help us support clients through research, public consultation and outreach, and facilitation of change processes. From parks to rail stations to future uses of contaminated sites, we engage all interests in understanding both the opportunities and the challenges.
City Considers Annexation

The City of Kirkland explored the option of annexing three neighborhoods north of the city limits, including Finn Hill, Juanita, and Kingsgate. EnviroIssues worked with city staff to craft and implement a phased communications strategy to inform the City Council’s decision. EnviroIssues conducted a needs assessment to determine available communication tools, which included stakeholder interviews, focus groups, and grassroots outreach efforts. Throughout the project EnviroIssues prepared outreach and education materials, coordinated a project speakers’ bureau, and provided web site support.

Badger Army Ammunition Plant Future Decided

When the General Services Administration was preparing to turn the Badger Army Ammunition Plant over to local use, EnviroIssues was asked to help a local group reach consensus on the future of the Sauk County, Wisconsin facility. We facilitated a 20-member committee comprised of federal, state, county, local, and tribal government officials, and various interests including local business, landowners, historical/cultural/educational, environmental conservation and cleanup, recreation, and transportation. Consensus recommendations allowed Badger decisions to move forward
into redevelopment.

Shoreline Citizens Engaged in Comprehensive Plan Update

When the City of Shoreline updated its comprehensive plan and prepared supporting master plans for transportation, shorelines, and critical areas, EnviroIssues provided strategic public outreach direction and implementation. We hosted public meetings, prepared information materials, and worked with the technical team to integrate public input into the final documents. As Shoreline wrestles with growth, we made their community outreach process work for them.

Preserving History and Encouraging Growth

The South Lake Union neighborhood in Seattle is growing at unprecedented rates and newcomers and residents alike want to preserve the character of the area. EnviroIssues, with the Seattle Department of Transportation, engaged the community in the development of design guidelines for Terry Avenue North. Going door-to-door to ask for input from local businesses and property owners, we helped develop design guidelines to preserve the character and history of the area, while upgrading the street for new uses.
